Appalachian Rain
05:03
|
|||
I've been thinking about a way to get to heaven.
I've been standing in the Appalachian Rain.
I've been hoping for a change in the weather,
but everyone I know has found someone to blame.
You've been dreaming about a bridge across forever.
You've been drowning in the hot summer rain.
Not a single one of us could piece it all together
when something immaterial is pounding in your brain.
And it's quite alright.
(In the morning we can finally dance together).
It's quite alright.
(Let the flood, let the mud, let the flood sweep away these blues).
I've been standing in the Appalachian rain.
I've been hoping for a change in the weather,
for the better.
And maybe we could piece it back together.

Eyes brighter than the fires of Alexandria
or Rome--the evening of the fall.
You wear the crown
of gardens hanging down in Babylon,
so long now overrun.
Float away--
nothing that a man made is built to stay.
But, oh, don't go away.
Steadfast as the guardian of the haven
at Rhodes, standing brave & bold.
You speak the truth--even when consumed
among the ruined temples of our youth.

Into the sunset all alone,
into the heart of something unknown.
Embrace the falling western glow
& hear the whisper of an ancient soul
Don't let it go.
Oh, no, no.
Don't let it go.
Western lonely soul.
The tide is turning, deep and cold.
The sky is burning all that we know.
You've got to make it on your own--
you've got to carry on the Western soul.

Whiskey & Dreams
06:03
|
|||
We stood alone for a minute,
city lights clouding our vision.
Somehow the moon brushed your skin,
and I know the stars up above saw the whole fearless thing.
The air was colder, I think.
Memory tends to distort such things.
But, for now, the image is clear:
dark drinks, sinking into your lips,
my bright-eyed dear.
Whiskey & dreams & all kinds of simple things--
Whisky & dreams survive.
Whiskey & dreams & all kinds of simple things--
Whisky & dreams tonight.
Old beliefs can change in an instant--
flesh & bone become something so distant.
Whiskey & dreams survive--
we can drink & sing our songs;
we can still feel so alive.
